Local Access to Global Music & Dance

sambada-workshopACORN is offering a new program, Local Access to Global Music & Dance, in order to create cultural opportunities for residents of our rural community. Music and dance provides access to cross-cultural learning in a meaningful and engaged way.

We launched this program in November 2016 by hosting a day-long SambaDá in the Schools workshop. Dandha da Hora and Ibou Ngom shared their knowledge and respect for music and dance as they guided Kindergarten through 8th grade students in Afro-Brazilian drumming, dancing and capoeira. SambaDá is a Santa Cruz band based in the musical traditions of Brazil, and also references salsa and cumbia.

You can help support this program by making a donation to help underwrite artist stipends. Thank you in advance for supporting this exciting new program!
